JSON Formatting and Validation for Beginners

JSON is a widely used text format for exchanging structured data between applications. It uses objects, arrays, strings, numbers, booleans and null.

Valid JSON example

{ "name": "Weblancia", "active": true, "tools": ["counter", "formatter"] }

Common mistakes

JSON strings require straight double quotation marks. Trailing commas and comments are not part of standard JSON. Object keys must be quoted.

Format before debugging

Pretty-printing JSON makes nesting and missing delimiters easier to spot. Validation checks syntax, not whether data matches a particular API schema.
